Let me tell you something I hate writing, not because I’m terrible at it but because I don’t believe that I’m GREAT at it. It occurred to me though, how can I be great at something I’ve never taken the time to master?

We all want to be great, and to have a natural born talent for something, right?

Like how we talk about sales agents who were just given “the gift of the gab” but how true is that statement?

It isn’t true. We just got to witness the end product but didn’t see them get rejected thousands of times to master the art of getting the yes.

So how do we overcome the things we hate? Exposure effect.

Kerwin Rae, at one of his events spoke about applying the exposure effect to his fear of heights by jumping out of a plane sky diving hundreds of times and now he doesn’t hold the same fear.

Imagine if we applied the same principle to everything in our life that we dislike.

I tend to procrastinate the things in life I do not like.

To give you an example it took me 2 weeks to write 1 simple sales email. 2 weeks, to put pen to paper or in this case fingers to keyboard to write a simple sales email that I already knew the content for.

When deadline time hit, guess how long it took me to write, edit, re edit and have a second pair of eyes read it.

30 MINUTES.

Yes, 30 damn minutes. In the two weeks that I procrastinated writing that email, I could have easily produced 50 different sales emails if I’d taken the route of exposure effect.

If we over exposed our self to the things we dislike, are fearful of, or make us uncomfortable, how different would the outcome be the next time we were set to face it?

If I had written 50 sales emails in 1 week, would I have not procrastinated, would I have not been fearful of it being average? Probably.

This is why I am writing, every day for the next 30 days.

If it makes you SCARED, do it 100 times until you’re no longer scared.
If you think you SUCK at it, do it 100 times over until you no longer suck.
If it makes you UNCOMFORTABLE, do it 100 times over until you don’t feel uncomfortable.
If it makes you ANXIOUS, do it 100 times over until you don’t feel anxious.
